In chatting with an old friend recently (I actually hadn’t seen him in decades), I was reminded that when faced with our morality, we often have questions. Some of these questions revolve around, “What about all the ungodly stuff I did that was so horrible I can’t even talk about it?” We seem to expect judgment to come as we would normally conceive justice today. However, God has made provision for our judgment as well as the pardoning of our due sentence.

If you are like any normal person, there were seasons of your life that were times of learning and experimenting. Oftentimes, those times of learning and experimenting happened when you lacked a vibrant relationship with Christ—even if you grew up in the church. During these seasons of unchristian behavior, our culture, media, or friends that we associated with at the time usually influenced us. As we endeavor to walk with Christ after these seasons of unsavory or embarrassing actions, we are often reminded of our blemished past. So what are we to do?

Reading and reminding ourselves of God’s word is the key to answering our questions. The Scriptures tell us in Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” So if the enemy of your soul is trying to beat you down, you must realize that is not from God. We are also told in 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” That does not mean confess them to everybody, but confess them to God and ask for His forgiveness.

God will forgive and cleanse us of our sins if we are truly sincere—no matter what the sin. We just have to give every sin and every person affected by our actions to Christ; and ask for his forgiveness. Jesus Christ has purchased our forgiveness for every sin through his atoning sacrifice on the cross. As Romans 5:8 states, “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Forgiveness has a name and it’s Jesus Christ. He offers forgiveness to every person who trusts in Him. Today I hope you will.

God’s best!
